Langdon Community resident Andrew Berkowicz is looking to set up his own portable appliance testing business.

Andrew, 28, recently attended a PAT testing course and has now received his pass certificate, allowing him to forge ahead with his plans.

He said: "I am determined not to rely on state benefits to keep me. I can't wait for the day I call the job centre and sign off."

Andrew has already secured several PAT testing contracts, but will need to work more to enable him to secure the 16 hours per week needed to sign off unemployment benefit.

Andrew's proposed business is part of Langdon Community's enterprise initiative, which includes finding new sponsors for new businesses aswell as experts to offer guidance and advice.

A managed property cleaning business is also currently being set up.

Langdon Community helps young Jewish adults with learning difficulties or disabilties to live a life of their own choosing.
